No ends to Luggage Tags

I woke up at 4am this morning. Arwen had one of her night terror episodes. She’d cry out of a sudden and as suddenly as it started, she’d go back to sleep; as if nothing happened at all. Since I’m awake, I decided to finished off what I started last night. I managed to cut and prepared the material for three luggage tags for my girlfriends. All I needed was to sew them together. I finished everything in an hour and got to clean up my sewing room. I’ve taken out some fabrics for CD toters. I’m planning to put some at Ruzila Kassim’s booth in Putrajaya next wednesday. She was generous to offer fellow crafters who’s interested to put up items for sale at her booth. Since it’s already in my turf (Putrajaya), I might as well come on board. I haven’t start a single toter yet. Me and my last minute execution. I’m cooking a plan to add passport covers and luggage tags. Only if time permits.

Till then, have a nice weekend folks!

A Birthday Present for A Special Friend

I have a date with a bunch of girlfriends tomorrow morning for brunch and it will definitely stretch out to, who knows. One of them is celebrating her birthday this month so I thought I could make a bag for her. I’ve been using a lot of Gypsy Paisley in White from the Gypsy Bandana Collection by Pillow & Maxfield and I just love it. I looked around for a bag pattern not too difficult to make in a short period of time and decided to make the Ava Bag, a Tanya Whelan of Grand Revival Design. I’ve had this pattern for over a year and made one bag for my mom last year for mother’s day.

I love the fact that it’s reversible and mix and match it with Patty Young’s Zen Garden in Pear from the Sanctuary Collection. It’s not my neatest of work but given the time constraints, I’m quite pleased with the outcome. I just hope that Birthday Girl is equally happy with this little gift.

To make it interesting, I’ve spread out the contrasting fabrics that I used for the background of the picture. You can see the crease in the first picture :P

To my dearest friend, Nazlina Noordin,

I’m wishing you another year
Of laughter, joy and fun,
Surprises, love and happiness,
And when your birthday’s done,

I hope you feel deep in your heart,
As your birthdays come and go,
How very much you mean to me,
More than you can know.

By the way, these fabrics are available for sale at lilarwen.blogspot.com if you’re interested :)

A Pillow Case Dress for Baby Mia

I’m scrap-busting my 1/2 meter stash. I made this for baby Mia. Her mommy, ordered the camera strap cover and some other stuff from me. She’s a great photographer and operates LittleBIGShots Photography. Check it out on Facebook :)

I made using the last 1/2 stash of MetroMarket Strawberries in Aqua. Finished the edges with red bias tape. I used Mingle in Blossom for the strap.

Mommy, don’t forget to take great shots of Mia in this dress!

My New Camera Bag

I’ve had my Lumix GF2 for almost 3 months now. Although it came with a bag but I normally chuck it in my Cosmo bag along with God knows what else. It’s rough I know and I’ve been searching for a bag suitable for it. I went online and browsed Esty for some ideas. I like the cubie or a padded insert that you can put in any bag. But I don’t have any foam lying around in the house to make one.

Camera Cube found on Etsy
After much searching, I finally decided to follow Pink Penguin’s Bento/Lunch Bag tutorial. I made a slight modification to the bag where I added  batting onto the bag’s body for padding and extra protection to keep the camera from being knocked around too much. And Oh!, I added some pockets in the interior lining for memory cards.
I took this with my Iphone4. The quality is not too hot. I am seriously considering to make a matching camera strap cover and lens pouch...
I’ve had ScotchGard for quite sometime already. I found it at a DIY shop in IOI Mall, next to Daiso. I was prompted to get this when Naza of Itsy Doodles asked me how to stain-proof placemats she’s making for a customer a while ago. My solution is to put the placemats under the plastic or vinyl cover that people usually put on their tables. When I saw this, I thought I’d give it a try and protect my bags. :) I have yet to put it to test. I will update accordingly when I have.

Now, I’ve got to get ready to pick Danial up from school and send some packages to the postoffice.

Luggage Tags for Teacher’s Day and A Camera Strap Cover

I was procrastinating as usual on making a gift for Danial’s teachers for Teacher’s Day and decided to make luggage tags a day before D Day. It became a weekend project for us. It was super fast and I love it because I get to clear my scraps. Perfect scrap-buster.

Danial helped out personalizing the cards for the gift. His hand-writing is neat nowadays. I don’t ask too much from boys...

Look at Danial displaying the tags on his arm. :)

Passport cover for Datin Nur Fadhilah

Passport covers for Adelin Madiha and family :)
Early this morning, I managed to squeeze in 2 more luggage tags to go along with the passport covers ordered by Adelin Madiha and Datin Nur Fadhilah. It’s FOC!!!! I hope you like the little surprise :) Sorry, no picture. I had to rush it to go out with my delivery man :) Thank you my beloved husband :)

By mid-morning, I got this done. A camera strap cover for Rumaizah Abdul Wahab, a photorgrapher and owner of LittleBigSHOTs Photography. She asked for a lens cap pocket and I hope this will do :) I was intimidated to edge stitch/top stitch the strap and sure enough, the stitches jumped/skipped when I use the normal foot. I have to undo the stitches and for the second round, I used my walking foot and it went through like a breeze. For those who’ve not seen a walking foot before, this is how it looks like. I googled the picture and used it here, temporarily. I’ll shoot my walking foot later.

It’s been a blast making these stuff. I’m looking forward to making some more :) Have a good week ahead folks :)

More Personalized Passport Holders

Made this two earlier tonight. Love the combo.

The front is personalized with embroidered initials.

Close up of my label on the inner back panel of the cover.

Just as I was putting away the ric-racs that I used, I thought the splash of colours were interesting and snap a photo of it for my 2011 Project 365.

Just in case anybody is interested, I make and sell this passport covers for RM15.00 a piece (without personalization). It’s RM20.00 with embroidery for personalization. The price is the same for 1 fabric or a combination of 2 fabrics. I charge a flat fee of RM7.00 for delivery so, don’t ask me to make just one. Make one for every member of your family :)

Good night everybody. I’m going to take my cough mix and go straight to bed.

Passport Covers for Didee Hamzah

My Mother’s Day weekend was filled with spring cleaning, separating the plastics, metals and paper for recycling, packing old clothes and send them to the recycling centre, a bit of ironing, photography and photo-editing and making these beauties :) I was filling the Poslaju docket this morning hoping I could pass it to my husband cum involuntary dispatch to drop it at Poslaju only to realize that I don’t have Didee’s address. I hope you like them Didee.

All packed and ready to go
And this is the rare moment where I can leave my sewing room looking like this.

The move to clear my work space came about after I was made green with envy looking at Sue of MyBotang’s neat sewing studio photo. Organization is not one of my strong points. More often than not, the table would be in a mess with all sorts of things. I would ‘tai chi' them from one side to the other when I needed the space. Things get lost too in the pile of stuff I have on the table and I waste time looking for them. Good thing that my sewing activities is confined in a room. Otherwise, I shudder to imagine the chaos in my house :)
