Long weekend sewing

It’s a long christmas weekend here in Malaysia. Saturday, we went to Jalan Pudu to get some notions in bulk quantity. It was drizzling in the morning and th traffic was slightly congested. I guess, that’s normal in those parts of the world. It was a quick stop and I got Azrai to drive me around Jalan Kenanga for a quick survey. I found a shop that sells all sorts of display racks and fixture. Something I’d KIV for the next craft market.

We then went to Tropicana City to do groceries for Nenek Damansara. At least, Azrai did that while I took the kids to Toys ‘R’ Us to kill time. Had lunch at 3pm at Lake Club and went to Puchong to get Danial and Azrai a hair cut.

Christmas day was a day to laze around at home watching tv. We had breakfast at home and only went out for lunner (lunch and dinner) at 5.30pm in Cyberjaya. We decided on Papparich. Here’s some photos:

This morning, I decide to use up my corduroy stash and make more 3/4 pants for Danial. I know some parents have daily clothes and nice clothes for outings and make a point to get the kids to change into nicer clothes before going out. I’m one who’s not bothered to get the kids to change so I get them to wear ready to go out clothes everyday. Even at the spur of the moment, we can all just dash through the door and go out. The idea of having to change the kids before going out would just kill the mood.

How was your weekend? Enjoy the few more hours left of it and if I don’t make any more post before the year end, here’s ending 2011 with gratitude. It’s been a good year and looking forward to a greater 2012 :) Happy new year folks!

Crafty Art Market at JayaONE

I’m making a last minute shout out. I’ll be sharing a booth with Sew Fabby tomorrow at Crafty Art Market in Jaya ONE, Section 17, Petaling Jaya from 10am to 6pm. I’ll be manning or in my case, ‘womanning’ the booth with Intan Safiah since Azzah is not feeling too well. In the spirit of crafter-hood and sister-hood, we’ll keep her banner up tomorrow.

So, please give us your support. Come by tomorrow. There’ll be lots of others crafts on sale too. For those who’s shopping for Christmas, I bet there’s a lot of sock-fillers that you can find here.

I just pray that the weather would be nice tomorrow. It’s been raining heavily the past couple of days.

Let the pictures do the talking

I bought some jute twine from Daiso recently and tried to knit it into a basket. This is my WIP:

Some times earlier this week, I sidetracked and made scrappy keychains. I found a tutorial here and made my own versions. I like the circle ones but my circles didn’t come quite as cute as I wanted them to be so I stick to squares and rectangles.

My first prototype

The approved version

This is me going overboard!

I also bathe my cutting mat for the first time upon reading that my OLFA mat loves moisture. Here’s the link. It’s not my say so. I don’t have a bath tub but I managed just the same. It’s true, My mat loves it. It does feel more supple :) Try it yourself.

I’m clearing up my stuff too (in my never ending to bring order in my sewing room) and decided to sell off my old fixed circular needles and straight needles. As to this point, my circular needles are all sold off and I have a few more straight needles selling at RM8.00 a pair.

I’m letting go of my older needles as I’m making room for my new KnitPro Symfonie Interchangeable Deluxe set :)

And I made two version of Avabags using laminated fabric that I bought from IKEA. The one in front is the original version with cotton webbing handles. I padded the lining with 160gm fiber batting. It gives the bag a nice shape. The one at the back is more of a tote size Avabag which I increased 30% from the original template. I made the handles longer. Loving both of them. You can see them making their debut at the next craft market at JayaONE, this coming Saturday, 17 December 2011.

We are going to attend a wedding reception the evening of 17 December 2011. It’s my brother inlaw’s wedding recaption and the theme colour is grey. I decided to knit Arwen a top because I have some leftover Rowan Milk Cotton in Humbug. I used the pattern: Eastern Promises from the magazine Get Knitted which I recently bought at RM19.90. It has 70 patterns. What a deal. This project was super fast. I made it in 24 hours!

Here’s Arwen modeling it for me with the help of Danial with his bubble gun. I planned to have it paired with a puffy skirt. I’m making a short sleeve shirt for Danial with the same material. The only problem is I don’t have anything to wear.

I finally got my business cards printed professionally by a fellow facebooker who owns a printing company. It’s a great deal. RM33 for 3 boxes. The best deal in the whole of Klang Valley! Fast service too. I got it in a week after confirming the design and made the payment. Thanks Kak Zamara Buang of RedBlack Art Studio.

I made my card plain because I wanted to personalize it with my scraps. Tested and I’m quite happy with my ver 2.0 of fabric bizcard. The ver 1.0 is here.

And I still have loads to do....

Spring Cleaning

I haven’t been sewing this past few days as I’ve been trying to restore some order in my chaotic sewing room. I repurposed 2 book shelves that Azrai threw out. Originally it has 4 tiers but the bottom were rotten so Azrai saw it off and salvaged the top half. I asked him to paint it white. I used one to keep my books and patterns and notions and the other one to keep my fabric stash. Note to self, no more fabric shopping for the year.

This morning, I side-tracked again while folding more fabrics. I found some leftover lycra that was used for my mom’s scarf. I wanted to make one that didn’t use a stiff interfacing on the hood (or commonly called ‘awning’) Here’s me with my prototype taken with Iphone.

Azrai took the kids out for errands today, leaving me to sew to my heart’s content. I made a prototype of a zipper pouch with a tissue holder at the back. Some sort of a zipper pouch+tissue holder combo.

This one measures approximately 3.5” x 5” which fits the tissue packet very well. Then I had a eureka moment and tried to fit my Iphone into the zipper pouch but the pouch was a bit short. So I adjusted the length and made a second protyotype. I added a carabiner just to see how it looks. Here are the two prototypes side by side:

The adjusted size is approximately 3.5” x 6” and can fit my Iphone. Observe:

So I decided to make a bunch of it to add to the stuff I want to bring to the next Craft Market.

I love the contrast of the colorful zippers. Good thing I bought a few from my last trip to Karysma. I might add some key fobs to go with these pouches.

All in all, it was a productive day :) If only I can sew without interruption everyday... *wishful thinking*

My Birthday Giveaway!

I just got back from Penang for a birthday getaway with my husband and kids. It was great. I wanted to share and show you the photos I took at the beach but I’m running out of time with my giveaway post that I’ve promised to post on my birthday. So here goes.

A couple of weeks ago, I got the chance to review a fantastic digital scrapbooking software; My Memories Suite. I’ve always love how people do the conventional scrapbook and was awestruck when I went to Craft Haven where they sell all the scrapbooking stuff (I just went there to get Mod Podge). I wouldn’t know where to start and it sure is going to do a lot of damage to my purse. I’ve always tinkered with the idea of digital scrapbooking since most of my photos are in my hard-disk. This opportunity was too good to miss.

It’s so easy, I mean seriously EASY to use and make digital scrapbook in no time at all. I made this short video photo slide within minutes.

There’s so many things you can do with this software; not just do scrapbook pages. You can add video clips, and music to it and make it more fun.

Here’s a video to tell you more about My Memories Suite.

OK, enough of me raving about this software. Here’s the juicy part. In conjunction with my birthday, I’m giving away ONE copy of My Memories Suite software for FREE!!!

The rules are:
1. Go to www.MyMemories.com and choose a favorite paper pack or layout
2. Leave a comment under this post (and this post ONLY) telling me which ones you chose. (your comments can be in English or Malay, since that’s the two languages that I understand)

I think that’s simple enough, isn’t it? I’ll make a simple draw on the 1st of December 2011 to select the LUCKY WINNER so you have from now until 30th November 2011 (midnight) to visit www.MyMemories.com and leave a comment here.

My Memories Suite ver 2.0 is retailed at $39.97 and this giveaway is open to ALL; Malaysians and International followers (I hope I do have some international followers).

Aidiladha Project, A Diaper Caddy, Laminated Cloth Project and Azrai’s Birthday

The title is so lengthy... That’s because I’m dumping a whole lot of news in a single posting. There’s actually more but I got lost half way so I decided to stick with what I already have. OK, here goes...

Aidiladha Project
I made a maxi dress for Arwen and a simple tunic for Danial. They’re inspired by Charlie’s Tunic by Made by Rae.

I have more pictures of Hari Raya Aidiladha but I’m keeping that for something special. There’s going to be a giveaway soon :)

A Diaper Caddy

This is a WIP. I need to put in the separators and a base for this. Isn’t it cute?

Laminated Cloth Project

I found laminated cloth nextdoor to Epal Training Centre, Puchong and was over the moon!!!! I went in after sending my machine of 7 years for some TLC last week. (which reminds me, they haven’t call me yet. It shouldn’t take so long!) Since we’re going for a short break to the seaside soon, I thought I make myself a bag. I have my heart set on the bucket bag pattern because I read somewhere that it’s best to use a simple pattern for laminated fabric. I used cotton webbing for the trimmings and handles and lined my bag with batting. One reason, I need the padding in case I decide to throw in my camera in the bag. I also added a key tab for a phase 2 of this bag. So, it’s still a WIP. Just that I get to use it already tonight when we went out for dinner and took Danial for his school consert rehearsal.

Azrai’s Birthday

Saving the best for last, today, Friday, November 11, 2011 (11.11.11), Azrai celebrates his 43rd birthday. I made this video for him as a birthday present.

Other things in store

I’m going to have a free giveaway soon! Stay tuned for the announcement.

More pictures on Crafty Market at Jaya One

I guess everybody was excited to sell their fare at the Crafty Market last Saturday (29 October 2011) especially us the newbies. Azzah of Sew Fabby proved to be an exceptionally wonderful landlady and provided a lot of baskets, display err umm stuff to hang small items, tablecloth, banner, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

I took a few pictures during the initial setting up hour. So, enjoy them :)
