How I design my business card in Silhouette Studio

I picked up my new business card yesterday (Wednesday, 9 March 2016) on my way to Spotlight Mines. Super happy with Eprint services. The card came out fantastic; excellent colours, sharp print out and everything. On their website, they stated that it would take 3 working days to print the cards. I opted for self collection and targeted to collect them on Friday, in time for the Knitting Party this Saturday. I ordered them online on Tuesday and made payment online on the same day and to my surprise, received a text from them saying that the cards are ready for collection. Wow, that’s what I call fast service. I would recommend them if you want to have your printing done.

Anyway, just to share how I made my business cards. I’ve used Photoshop Elements and Adobe Illustrator before but honestly speaking, they are not for the faint of hearts. Not recommended for newbies. I find that I’m very comfortable with Silhouette Studio design software. (Read about my Silhouette Portrait here) It’s very user friendly and I found this post on designing business cards in Silhouette Studio by SilhouetteSchoolBlog.  Melissa listed out in details the how to design with the software. Once’s I’m done and happy with the design, I just save it in PDF format. EPrint accepts PDF file for printing so it’s very convenient not having to convert the PDF file into AI format.

Oh, did I tell you, the price for printing business cards with EPrint is very competitive too? I ordered 2 boxes of business cards for RM15.40 only.

Let the pictures do the talking

I bought some jute twine from Daiso recently and tried to knit it into a basket. This is my WIP:

Some times earlier this week, I sidetracked and made scrappy keychains. I found a tutorial here and made my own versions. I like the circle ones but my circles didn’t come quite as cute as I wanted them to be so I stick to squares and rectangles.

My first prototype

The approved version

This is me going overboard!

I also bathe my cutting mat for the first time upon reading that my OLFA mat loves moisture. Here’s the link. It’s not my say so. I don’t have a bath tub but I managed just the same. It’s true, My mat loves it. It does feel more supple :) Try it yourself.

I’m clearing up my stuff too (in my never ending to bring order in my sewing room) and decided to sell off my old fixed circular needles and straight needles. As to this point, my circular needles are all sold off and I have a few more straight needles selling at RM8.00 a pair.

I’m letting go of my older needles as I’m making room for my new KnitPro Symfonie Interchangeable Deluxe set :)

And I made two version of Avabags using laminated fabric that I bought from IKEA. The one in front is the original version with cotton webbing handles. I padded the lining with 160gm fiber batting. It gives the bag a nice shape. The one at the back is more of a tote size Avabag which I increased 30% from the original template. I made the handles longer. Loving both of them. You can see them making their debut at the next craft market at JayaONE, this coming Saturday, 17 December 2011.

We are going to attend a wedding reception the evening of 17 December 2011. It’s my brother inlaw’s wedding recaption and the theme colour is grey. I decided to knit Arwen a top because I have some leftover Rowan Milk Cotton in Humbug. I used the pattern: Eastern Promises from the magazine Get Knitted which I recently bought at RM19.90. It has 70 patterns. What a deal. This project was super fast. I made it in 24 hours!

Here’s Arwen modeling it for me with the help of Danial with his bubble gun. I planned to have it paired with a puffy skirt. I’m making a short sleeve shirt for Danial with the same material. The only problem is I don’t have anything to wear.

I finally got my business cards printed professionally by a fellow facebooker who owns a printing company. It’s a great deal. RM33 for 3 boxes. The best deal in the whole of Klang Valley! Fast service too. I got it in a week after confirming the design and made the payment. Thanks Kak Zamara Buang of RedBlack Art Studio.

I made my card plain because I wanted to personalize it with my scraps. Tested and I’m quite happy with my ver 2.0 of fabric bizcard. The ver 1.0 is here.

And I still have loads to do....

Gearing up for my first Craft Market

I’m excited over the craft market that’s happening tomorrow that I can’t go to sleep. I might as well blog about it and spread the words. Azzah of Sew Fabby has graciously open her booth for fellow GMJ to put up their items for sale and I took up the offer. So, Rozi’s Needlework or Made by Rozi Rahman (I’m rebranding) will have our first craft market exposure tomorrow in Booth 17. Do come and check it out.

I have a few things that I’m putting for sale and they are:

Luggage tags @ RM12.00 a piece
Passport Covers @ RM15.00 each

CD Toter @ RM50.00 each

I only got to make very few of these items so if you want them, grab them quick at the craft market. I’ve also dabbled into making my own price tags and again Azzah of Sew Fabby helped out with the purchasing of the plastic packaging.

In the eleventh hour, I decided to make my own business cards. I got my inspiration from here and since I’m just looking for an excuse to use Mod Podge, this is a perfect project for it.  I started applying Mod Podge on some scrap linen for the base fabric and some cotton scraps for the deco fabric. I didn’t have card stock so I used whatever that’s available in the house; HP Photo paper.

I love this project. The only one setback is I have to leave the Mod Podge to dry before the next step and I don’t really have the luxury of time. Yet, I managed to make quite a few of these beauties. I’m very proud of them especially the design on my card. I made it from scratch and threw it to my good buddies in GMJ Club. They comment, gave ideas, shared, improved until I have the final design. That’s why earlier on I mentioned I’m in the midst of rebranding. I’m pushing my name as a brand.

And here’s some of the fabrics designs that I used for my card. And this is the first batch. The second batch is still left to dry for the night.

These will meet the public at the craft market tomorrow. I better get some sleep. Need to wake up early and drive to PJ to help set up with the booth :)
